August Mom of the Month - Ruth Chang

Hometown - USA--i was an army kid so i was all over.

Education - Bachelor's at UCR and then MEd (Master's of Education) there as well. Used to teach until I had Violet! =0)

Stroller Strides Member since - Like the last day of April 2009.

Members of my family - My husband, me and Violet.

My mom, dad, four sisters, two brothers.

Current/Previous Career - 3rd grade teacher!

What was your childhood ambition?
To become a teacher, doctor, scientiest, astronaut, and musician. but ultimately, a teacher.

What does motherhood mean to you?
Motherhood means being the most loving support a child can have. Being there no matter what. But, more importantly--my child knowing that I'll be there no matter what. Motherhood is the first and most important priority in my life. I feel that it should be that way for everyone.

What is the furthest you have been from home?
South Korea--or maybe that was the closest I was to home? (Since I am Full Korean)

What has Stroller Strides done for you?
It has helped me to get out of my isolation as a mom and see that being a stay at home mom is indeed wonderful! It has helped me to gain self confidence in my body. It has helped me to be more mobile and I can actually move and run more than i ever have in my life (even before i was pregnant!)

What is your favorite exercise? ABS!!!

What is your proudest moment? during stroller strides:
The day i could actually run several blocks and not feel like i was going to pass out!!!
during Motherhood:
the day i looked at my chubby Violet who was in the 95 percentile in weight and could honestly say, "This was all made by me and my milk!!!" =0)

What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)?
music, reading, walking with my family.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique.
The first time i met my husband was when i was 6 or 7 in Washington state. He visited his cousin's church, which was my church at the time. later, when i was 12, i lived in Virginia, but went to a camp meeting in Tenessee and my future husband was my class speaker. the next year, he did not come to the camp, and i wrote him a letter saying that it was boring without him. (which he still has for some reason). Later, when i was 19, i was singing with my sisters at a church in Riverside, and my future husband was the church leader there. It was destiny! and NO, i did NOT have a crush on him before i was 19. He was 5 years older than me, and when you're 12, 5 years is way too old! (at least for me it was!) =0)

oh--another interesting thing--my mother-in-law lives with us. =0)

Sea World Field Trip

Stroller Strides of Riverside is visiting Sea World on September 16th. We will be participating at a Stroller Strides class in the park and then enjoy the rest of the day with the animals. Class begins promptly at 10:15am inside the park.

Jeff Wallace Photography is coming out on October 10th to take pictures of our Stroller Strides families. He will be at the UCR Botanic Gardens from 10am on taking pictures for just $75 for a 20 minute session. In addition to the 20 minutes you get 5 edited pictures and the rest of your photos on a CD for you to print yourself. You will have your family pictures done just in time for those holiday cards. We are offering a new package for our members. Since we have our evening class now, you are able to go to unlimited classes for just $20 more a month. Don't forget DADS are ALWAYS FREE with a paying member, so it can be a 2 for 1 for those who take advantage.

Unlimited Membership $75/month

This membership allows you to go to any class offered in the Riverside area. Click here for all location information.

Morning Membership $55/month

This membership allows you to go to any morning class location, 5 days a week. It also give you a discounted price of $5 per evening class that you come to. Click here for all location information.

Evening Membership $35/month

This membership allows you to go to any evening class, twice a week. It also gives you a discounted price of $5 per morning class you attend. Click here for all location information.

10 Class Pass $110 good for 6 months

The 10 class pass no longer requires a one time registration fee. Like the day pass holder, you would be using the instructors bands and any equipment we offer in the future.

Evening Classes are back...

Starting September 1st our evening classes will be back in session. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 at Taft Park. Click here for more information and directions.

If you are a morning member and want to switch to evening classes you need to do it by August 15th. If you have to cancel, our 30 day policy still applies.

NEW STAFF MEMBERS

We have been blessed to add a couple new faces to our staff.

Please help me welcome Danika Egizi, our new substitute instructor.Danika has been a leader her whole life. She has experience with coaching Cheerleading, and has been named "Most Inspirational Summer Camp Instructor" along with many other awards in her many career ventures. She is an incredible mother and an inspriational person. We know you will all enjoy getting to know her better.

Eileen Hillmer is our new Marketing Assistant. Eileen has a lot of marketing experience working in the Marketing Department of Riverside County's Credit Union, before the name change to Altura. She has also worked at the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce as their Special Events Manager handling all events, including things like the Mayor's State of the City Address each year which brought in over 800 people. We are so excited to have her on our team.

Mom of the Month - Jennifer Valle

Who are the members of your family?
Husband Paul, son Nicholas (4 yrs) and daughter Cassandra (4 yrs)

What was/is your previous and/or current career?
My current job is by far the hardest and most rewarding, a stay at home mom. My previous career was the financial manager at the Commons, the UCR student union.

What are some of your favorite things (besides your husband and kids)?
This is a hard question... I don't think much past my family, but if I had to say something it would be going to the beaches. I grew up in Washington and always dreamed about the California beaches.

Tell us something about you that would surprise us.
During a summer break in college, I was a 21 dealer at Harvey's Casino in Lake Tahoe.

If we asked your husband what he thought your best qualities are, what would he say personality? physically?
I'm asking him right now: personality..... (he's thinking) it is friendly, easy to talk to and trust worthy. And, physically is my bottom. Again, these are his answers :).

Evening Classes open at Andulka Park

Stroller Strides of Riverside is opening up evening classes for a 6 week trial session at Andulka Park. This is a beautiful new park that offers new park facilities and walking trails. We can't wait to hold classes at this location.

Our evening classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30. The total cost for this 6 week session is $55 (less then $10/week) with a $30 registration fee for new customers. Dads are always welcome to come to class for FREE.

Join our Relay for Life Team

This will be our first year participating in the Relay For Life! We are so excited about this amazing event for the whole family. We hope you will join us and help us raise money for this amazing cause.

The event will take place over the 24 hour period between 9:00 am June 13th - 9:00 am June 14th at Norte Vista High School.

This is a great event for the whole family!! There are tons of activities for the kids and lots of fun booths!! We will be having our own booth where we are going to decorate the kid's strollers. We hope you don't miss out on a great way to contribute to a great cause!!

Our team goal this year is $2,000!!!!

Businesses around town donated gift certificates for us to present to our best costume for Mom and baby. Playgroup days are always a hit. The moms also look forward to Moms Night Out. > What events do you have planned for May? Our weekly playgroups and a Moms Night Out. > When and where do you meet? We meet every Thursday and Friday: Thursday at Castleview Park in Canyon Crest at 10:30 a.m.; and Friday at Orange Terrace Park in Orange Terrace at 10:30 a.m. > What kind of community involvement, such as work with nonprofits, community service, etc. does your MOMS Club do? personality - independent, motivated and determined; physically - I think he likes everything about my stroller stride fit bod.

Orange Terrace Library: New Storybook Time

You asked for it, they delivered... the Orange Terrace Library will be starting a new Storybook time for Preschoolers on Wednesday at 11pm. Please come to class on Wednesdays and then join us at the storybook time from 11 - 12:15.
